When it comes to choosing a location that will best represent your dog, there are a few things to consider;

1. What are you hoping to capture in your photos/is there a specific style of photo that you would like?

2. What best represents your dog’s personality?

3. What’s your favourite thing to do together?

4. Where are you thinking of displaying your photos in your home?

Your answer to these questions will influence the location that will work best for you. If you love spending time at the beach together, then what better location to use for your photoshoot. Or perhaps you love visiting flower gardens, then somewhere like tulip or lavender fields might be better for you. Thinking about where you want to display your wall art in your home is also going to have an influence – if your walls are painted a deep red for example, a portrait of your dog in purple lavender won’t be best displayed on that wall. There’s a lot to think about, but as your photographer, I’m here to help. Keep reading to find out more about different locations….

Flower Fields

If you love bright, vibrant colours then finding a location with flowers is a perfect option! There is the chance to hire locations with tulip fields, lavender, pumpkins and more. Personally, my favourite type of location as I love all of the vibrant, bold colours that really make the dog stand out. This portrait of Mae was photographed at Tulleys Farm in East Sussex.

Beach Photoshoots

Beach photo shoots are fantastic if you love spending time with your dog at the beach or if your dog loves water. Also great for those wanting less vibrant colours and a more simplistic portrait. Often best during ‘golden hour’ which is the beautiful warm light of the summer sun just before it sets. Camber Sands in East Sussex is a very popular location for beach photoshoots.

Forest and Woodland

Forests and wooded areas create a beautiful backdrop for those wanting deeper, more muted tones. Best for photoshoots during Spring, Summer and Autumn when the trees are full of leaves and colour. The great thing about forests is, it’s easy to create a lot of variety between portraits because of the vast difference in backdrops at every turn. Dogs can also be positioned on logs and benches for some super cute photos too! Darch’s Wood in Cross-In-Hand is a particularly stunning location for dog photoshoots.

Towns and Cities

A less popular location choice, but a beautiful one nonetheless. Town/city settings certainly bring a different feel to dog portraits. A great choice if you love architecture, old buildings, live in a town or simply enjoy spending time in towns/cities. Rye in East Sussex is a stunning old town with cobbled streets which creates a beautiful backdrop for dog photoshoots.

Fields

Open fields without visible fencing are also a popular location choice. Offering a more simplistic backdrop for portraits with muted colours.
